The Project – Mahatma Mandir, Gujarat
The Challenge – To give a homogenous appearance to the entire structure while maintaining its unique texture/aspect and at the same time protecting it.
This project had three phases: 2012 under L&T, 2014 and 2016 under Shapoorji Pallonji. Phase I used precast concrete, while Phases II and III used in-situ concrete.
The architects sought a low VOC, water-based protective treatment that preserved concrete properties, resisted aging and degradation, and maintained aesthetics. They initially considered a clear coat but found ProtectGuard Color, which offered protection and a uniform appearance with 10% pigmentation. It effectively shielded against rain, humidity, and pollution while maintaining the project’s world-class aesthetics.

The Project: The Statue of Unity
The Challenge:
The preservation of an iconic monument like The Statue of Unity hinges on effective protection against the relentless forces of deterioration—dirt, stains, pollution, UV, water intrusion, and the wear and tear of time.
The Approach:
The Statue of Unity, standing at 182 meters, commemorates Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. ProtectGuard Colour was crucial in safeguarding the monument from deterioration due to dirt, pollution, and time, integrating with the concrete for long-term preservation. Despite a tight timeline, the product was imported from France and applied by M/s Deepak Enterprise, ensuring timely completion for the historic inauguration on October 31, 2018. This case study highlights the significance of ProtectGuard Colour in maintaining the structural integrity and aesthetics of architectural concrete, securing the Statue of Unity as a lasting symbol of pride and inspiration.
The Project: Rajabai Clock Tower, Mumbai (India) – Brick treated with ProtectGuard®
The Challenge: In today’s polluted urban environment, many kinds of stone undergo decay, some slowly and some rapidly. There has been increased focus on the preservation of rapidly decaying monuments, especially in the last three decades.

The Project – Custom-made beige for Qatar sand rose
The National Museum of Qatar designed by Ateliers Jean Nouvel sprang up in the desert of Doha in 2019. This project’s appeal lies in its distinctive architecture in the shape of desert rose and its customised beige shade. In total, almost 80 000 sand-coloured Ultra-High Performance Fibre Concrete (UHPFC) panels form this rose.
For this project, Ateliers Jean Nouvel wanted to protect the building against water and dirt and give the concrete a beige colour reminiscent of desert sand. The architect called upon the expertise of Guard Industrie and its concrete stain ProtectGuard® Color. For this project, Guard Industrie developed a beige shade to best match the colour of the panels.
